Top Weight Loss Foods

Here’s a list of weight loss foods that keep me healthy and the weight off!

    Apples
Apples are high in water content and soluble fiber. That’s why they are so filling. Apples have been shown to reduce cholesterol, fight cancer, even promote healthy lungs. Organic apples are better for you than non-organic apples. Apple skins retain pesticides used for commercial use. Buy organic! Read: Cost of Food

    Eggs
They are a great source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids which give you lots of energy. Here’s another organic pitch. Farmers usually feed their hens feed made of canola oil, alfalfa, and rice bran. I like eating egg whites in the morning sprinkled with a little cheese. It keeps me fuller than having a bagel and toast. See meal plans

    Mushrooms
Mushrooms provide several nutrients found in meats and beans. They are low in calorie, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low in sodium, etc. They have important nutrients like selenium, potassium, riboflavin, niacin, Vitamin D, etc. They are a non-starchy vegetable, and you can eat as much as your heart desires. They are also said to help cure cancer. To me, that’s a double bonus. I throw them into my stir fries or grill them then top them with spinach and cheese.
    Lowfat Yogurt
Yogurt is a good source of animal protein because it’s made with milk. It has vitamin B-2, B-12, potassium, and magnesium. It will supply your body with “good” bacteria necessary in your digestive tract. It is also loaded with calcium bioactive compounds that help fat burning around the belly. I always wondered why the yogurt ads said I would lose weight if I ate one of their miracle weight loss cups. It didn’t make sense if it was made with all so much sugar. Well, now I get it. You can eat sugar as long as your body is getting something out of it like healthy nutrients which help the keep the weight off.
    Oatmeal
Don’t skip breakfast! Eating breakfast can make you skinnier. Research shows that people who eat breakfast have a lower body mass index (BMI) than those who skipped breakfast. In the study, those who ate cooked cereal also had a lower BMI than those who ate breakfast. Personally, oatmeal is so filling which, of course, means I don't eat as much. Let’s not forget that it’s high in soluble fiber which helps lower cholesterol.
    Nuts

Research shows that nuts can help reduce the risk of heart disease. They help lower “bad” cholesterol and raise “good” cholesterol. Be cautious of the amount you consume of these weight loss foods. I eat the 100-calorie snack pouches. Nuts are high in fiber, protein, Omega-3s, and calories! Remember, everything in moderation. Or as in this case, in small numbers.
    Fish
Fish is said to be more filling than oatmeal and vegetable. Mayo Clinic experts note that fish has high-quality protein but with lower amounts of saturated fat, total fat, and less calories than a similar-sized portion of meat. It’s a good source of Omega-3 fatty acids which reduces your body’s inflammation and helps reduce joint pain. In several studies, fish was found to reduce heart disease by 36 percent if eaten twice a week. Fish oil encourages healthy blood flow and reduces blood clotting. Weight Loss Foods: Mayo Clinic Study
    Bulgur
When I think of weight loss foods, I think of bland foods, and I certainly don't think of bulgur. Bulgur reminds me of the Middle East and the spice cones of Morocco. Bulgur is a great source of low-fat protein and fits perfectly in a low-calorie meal. One cup of bulgur has fewer calories, less fat, and has twice the fiber as that of brown rice. It is high in protein and fiber. Some of its other benefits: it contains iron and vitamin E and B6. Bulguar Chickpea Salad Recipe
    Salad
Diet and salad are like corn and Nebraska. I think our concept of salad has been distorted over time. Did you eat the green iceburg lettuce with unripened tomatoes? Oh yeah, my mom thought it was delicious, but then again, she pour tons of dressing over it. Salads does not have to be one of those weight loss foods from Blandville. If you load up on greens before a meal, you can cut several calories out of your overall meal. Of course, this also means not adding tons of salad dressing. It is best to combine the salad with a lean protein for a filling, complete meal. Greens are loaded with iron, calcium, Vitamin C, and folate.
    Grapefruit
My mother used to eat so much grapefruit. I didn’t inherit her genes. That’s for sure. She weighs and has always weighed 100lbs. Now, I wonder if it had something to do with her consumption of grapefruit. Research shows that grapefruit ranks high in weight loss foods. Eating even half a grapefruit before a meal can help with weight loss. Half a grapefruit only has 39 calories. Grapefruits and other citrus fruits contain an antioxidant called naringenin which may cause the liver to break down fat while increasing insulin sensitivity. This is also the reason why you see grapefruit in several diabetes diets.
    Grass-Fed Beef
I come from a family of farmers. In the US, the food I consume must be organic. I must know that the cow was out on the pasture, eating grass and enjoying the sun. Grass-fed beef do not have the concerns that are often associated with eating beef. It is a great source of antibiotics, hormones, and protein. Beef is naturally high in Omega-3s. I eat this in small quantities and only lean cuts. Add it to salads for a healthy, complete meal. Weight loss foods have never been this good.
    Green Tea
Green tea is not necessarily a weight loss foods per se. I am still adding it here because it is rich in antioxidants and helps regulate blood sugar levels. It promotes a healthy heart and speeds up fat oxidation. Simple translated, it helps people lose weight. Research says it boosts your metabolism with 5 cups a day. Benefits of Drinking Green Tea
    Avocados
Mannoheptulose, a sugar found in avocados, helps lower insulin levels that normally store fat. Avocados also fight cancer, promote healthy hearts, lower cholesterol, and prevents strokes. I can eat avocados everyday. They are always on my table. I make guacamole or add them to my salads. Is it the texture? The flavor? Weight loss foods never tasted so good!
    Spices
I'm all about food that tastes good. I don't want to lose flavor in eating my weight loss foods. Then I found out spices were good fro weight loss! Hot mustard was found in a British study to help burn an extra 45 to 75 calories over3 hours. In an Oxford University study, chili peppers were found to increase one’s metabolism. Garlic also helps flush out excess water. Cinnamon reduces blood sugar which in turn promotes a healthy absorption of carbohydrates. Ginger is great for your tummy. It helps with gastric mobility. It pushes food and waste out of your system and increases your metabolism.
